Definitely worth reading in our modern world threatened by Islamic extremists and for anyone interested in one of the human stories behind one of the world’s major religions. The girls turn away because they don’t know the truth: Muhammad himself is not painted at all sympathetically: City of Greater Dandenong Libraries. Not once in this book did I feel there was a negative bent toward Islam or Muslims.

I did not feel attached or drawn to a single character and found most of them annoying and hardly people I wanted to read a whole novel about. Enter British publisher Gibson Square, who picked up the rights and published the book.

Religious retellings of the Bible and Torah have been incredibly popular; the difference between The Jewel of Medina and them is negligible in quality and creative license.

I don’t understand the great fear Random House had about printing this work, I see nothing insulting to anyone, Muslim or otherwise, in it. There are others who believe the chosen one hasn’t stepped on this earth yet, and those who believe on a holy man who gave up all riches to purify his soul and reach nirvana, yet some believe in many gods still and at last there are those who believe nothing of the sort.

A’isha was married to the Prophet Muhammad at a very young age and was one of like a dozen wives he had acquired by the end of his lifetime.

Mohammad was quite a lady’s man with many wives and at least two concubines. An interesting look at the beginnings of The Islam religion.
