Dream from Katherine Forrest…
The dream was about owning a snake which changed into something else, the jaw and the long tail came off and it was changing into more of a salamander. The snake was always getting loose. There was a man who lived in my building we shared no common wall, but used a large hutch to divide the rooms facing my living area. The man had two more snakes in a glass tank with warm lights on them, and he was giving them attention, either cleaning or feeding these snakes. My snake/salamander was curious and slithered over to have a look. The man was informative about scientific facts on my pet. I had a strong protective instinct for this creature of mine. The man told me to secure my snake and seemed afraid that it would startle him. His wife gave me two large rabbit shaped painted South American urns that she put on my hutch. I did not move them. Later she was talking to another woman saying, he is gone you must forget about it. I thought that perhaps the urns contained ashes of this “he” she was referring to. Some sort of subterfuge also was perceived by me in this dream. Then I woke up

Hi Katherine
Snakes in dreams can symbolise healing and the potential for transformation. In fact your snake is staring to transform, becoming a salamander. Jung explored the symbol of the salamander, I can’t recall the exact teach but you could try a search in Google.
In the dream there is the need to keep the snake/salamander under control, which would suggest that you need to keep your process under control. When in therapy, there is much that can be stirred up and let loose. The man with the tanks is knowledgeable, and knows how to handle the snakes. He keeps them warm, fed and in the light. So you’ve this ability also. Its your dream.
I’m not sure about the urns. They are South American, so what are your associations with South America? Rabbits are fertile, and they also lead down rabbit holes, just as therapy you down into yourself (think here of Alice in Wonderland).
Over to you.
Craig

Thank you Craig. I recently purchased a home with a shared wall and behind the wall is a building gone to ruin. I moved to a magical town in NM called Taos. I will need to look for Jung on salamanders. I have his book on dreams could it be in there? Thanks for getting to this dream I imagine you get lots of requests for interpretation of them.

Hi Katherine,
Are you familiar with totem animals? It *could* be possible (of course, up for your intrepretation and judgement) that rabbits represent various things. Native Americans felt that rabbit totem medicine includes moving through fear, living by one’s own wits, receiving hidden teachings and intuitive messages, quick thinking, strengthening intuition, and paradox. Rabbit also represents humility, because he is quiet and soft and not self-asserting. Rabbit reminds us not to be afraid. Fearful thoughts reproduce (like rabbits) and bring the very thing we fear. Rabbit people are so afraid of tragedy, illness, and disaster, that they call those very fears to them to teach them lessons. If you see Rabbit or in any way feel attracted to him, it may be telling you to wait for the forces of the universe to start moving again, to stop worrying and to get rid of your fears. It always indicates a need to re-evaluate the process you are undergoing, to rid yourself of any negative feelings or barriers, and to be more humble.
*This totem may also bring a need to examine the kinds of foods you eat.
Perhaps a vegetarian diet, if only for a short time, can help you strengthen and heal. (helpful note: this helped me loose weight and get healthier)
*If a Rabbit totem has appeared in your dream, it may indicate a need for more planning or to check those plans already set in motion.
